The challenge — Overcoming platform barriers
Kaylin León is a psychologist moving to a new field—instructional design.
As she familiarized herself with this field, she discovered that much of the software required—like Articulate Storyline 360—only runs on Windows.
This compatibility issue posed a problem, given that she’s a Mac user.
“There was a big gap. I was panicking, thinking I needed to buy a PC and use it alongside my Mac every day. That was not an ideal situation.”
Kaylin researched on Reddit and discovered several discussions spearheaded by instructional designers touting the capabilities of Parallels Desktop.
“Many of your customers were saying, ‘Hey, instructional designers! If you're using software that only runs on Windows, you will need to use Parallels.’ There were so many fans of Parallels Desktop that I decided to go for it."
The solution — Seamless cross-platform integration
Kaylin dove right in and created projects specific to her new field of instructional design. The ease of toggling back and forth between Windows and Mac apps on her Mac was a breath of fresh air.
The installation took no time at all, and getting a virtual machine up and running was seamless.
She also credits Parallels Desktop with helping her land a job. “Parallels was pivotal in finding my dream job. My new employers were very impressed with the projects I created using the Parallels software.”
Kaylin has taken the time to learn new ways to utilize a Windows OS and associated software on her Mac. It has opened a whole new world of productivity.
“I love learning new ways to use a PC through my Mac. It’s a skill set that will come in very handy in the future. When the time comes to speak to potential new employers, I can say that I know how to use both OSs very well and fluently! I can even use the same hardware. Just one computer to be able to do dual functions.”
